Sacred Heart High School was granted ‘National Teaching School’ status in April 2013.

In our role as a Teaching School, we coordinate the West London Teaching Schools’ Alliance (WLTSA) which includes both primary and secondary schools (including those that are voluntary aided; community schools, free schools, faith schools or independent schools).  The WLTSA includes a smaller ‘Catholic Division’ which addresses issues particular to Catholic schools.

The WLTSA works collaboratively in the following key areas:

Initial Teacher Training –We have almost 50 ‘School Direct’ teacher trainees for 2014-15 across 15 partner schools including Sacred Heart; and we are recruiting to fill 97 trainee positions for 2015-16 across 26 partner schools. Further detail can be found on the wltsa website, see link below.

Succession Planning and Talent Management – We have established Middle Leaders, Widening Leadership and Coaching programmes.  Our Catholic division is working with the Diocese of Westminster to develop WLTSA succession planning systems for headteachers and other senior leaders.

Continuing Professional Development – We have an NQT exchange programme; we operate as a satellite hub for the Central and West Science Learning Partnership; we coordinate a Primary Maths Forum and have recently been successful in securing funding as a national Maths Hub; and for the delivery of a KS2 curriculum programme to vulnerable primary schools.  We have also developed a comprehensive toolkit to support Performance Management processes in a number of our partner schools.

Research and Development – We are currently engaged in Closing the Gap Test and Learn   which has led to an increase in the number of staff engaged in carrying out and developing the research at Sacred Heart. Staff at Sacred Heart have begun to identify R&D projects as part of the introduction of new assessment methods at KS3, and approaches to lesson observation for trainees through use of ‘What is Good Teaching and Learning’ (WIGT)

School to School Support - We have a range of experienced specialist teachers acting as ‘Specialist Leaders of Education’ who can be deployed to assist other schools who request support in particular areas.
