Hydrogen oxygen equation
What happens when hydrogen reacts with oxygen?
When molecular hydrogen (H2) and oxygen (O2) are combined and allowed to react together, energy is released and the molecules of hydrogen and oxygen can combine to form either water or hydrogen peroxide. These two processes are represented by the two chemical equations shown at right.
What is the equation for oxygen?
The chemical symbol for oxygen is O, but pure oxygen exists as diatomic (“two-atom”) molecules, represented by the chemical formula O2.
Does hydrogen explode with oxygen?
Hydrogen gas is very flammable and yields explosive mixtures with air and oxygen. The explosion of the mixture of hydrogen and oxygen is quite loud.
Can you make water from oxygen and hydrogen?
Just mixing hydrogen and oxygen together doesn’t make water – to join them together you need energy. The trouble with adding energy into the equation is that a large-scale chemical reaction of flammable hydrogen and oxygen (which is what keeps a fire burning) is likely to result in a rather large explosion.
Is pure hydrogen toxic?
Hydrogen isn’t poisonous, but if you should breathe pure hydrogen you could die of asphyxiation simply because you’ll be deprived of oxygen. Because it’s highly compressed, liquid hydrogen is extremely cold. If it should escape from its tank and come in contact with skin it can cause severe frostbite.
Is C o2 co2 a balanced equation?
You may need to multiply both sides if the number of an atom on the right is not a multiple of the atoms on the left.Example.
Step | Result | Equation balanced? |
---|---|---|
1 | carbon monoxide + oxygen → carbon dioxide | |
2 | CO + O 2 → CO 2 | |
3 | Reactants: 1 × C, (1 × O) + (2 × O) = 3 × O. Products: 1 × C, 2 × O | Not balanced. |
4 | 2CO + O 2 → CO 2 |
Is h2 o2 h2o a balanced equation?
The equation is now balanced.
What is the symbol of oxygen?
O
Can hydrogen gas kill you?
Pure hydrogen will not kill you. A lack of oxygen will kill you. A lack of oxygen will kill you. Breathing pure hydrogen has the same effect as breathing pure helium: a lungful will do nothing worse than make your voice higher-pitched, but a few lungfuls will asphyxiate you from lack of oxygen.
Can liquid hydrogen explode?
Even small amounts of liquid hydrogen can be explosive when combined with air, and only a small amount of energy is required to ignite it. Both its explosiveness and the extremely low temperatures involved make handling it safely a challenge.
Do Hydrogen cars explode?
The short answer is that hydrogen behaves differently from gasoline. But generally it is about as safe as the gasoline we now put in most vehicles’ fuel tanks. So in most cases, hydrogen doesn’t present as great a fire or explosive danger.
Can we make oxygen?
Oxygen can be produced from a number of materials, using several different methods. The most common natural method is photo-synthesis, in which plants use sunlight convert carbon dioxide in the air into oxygen. This method is called electrolysis and produces very pure hydrogen and oxygen.
Can earth run out water?
Water, as a vapor in our atmosphere, could potentially escape into space from Earth. While our planet as a whole may never run out of water, it’s important to remember that clean freshwater is not always available where and when humans need it. In fact, half of the world’s freshwater can be found in only six countries.
